When the Virginia Wesleyan women’s basketball team took on the Salem College Spirits in the Batten Convocation Center, they looked to finally notch a victory in 2015. Upended earlier in the week by ODAC rival Emory and Henry, the Marlins were confident they could rebound against a Salem team with only one win on the season.

The Spirits had different plans. Despite being down 14 points at the end of the first half, Salem College remained resilient and fought back to within seven points in the second half.

However, the Marlins, backed by a veteran savvy squad of seniors, put an end to the attempted Spirit comeback.

Fueled by senior Brittany Glasco’s career-high 30 points, the Marlins squashed any hope of a close game late in the second half and defeated the Spirits 85-71.

The win, which moves the Marlins to 8-4 on the season, is the last non-conference game of the season. With 13 straight ODAC conference games awaiting the Marlins for the rest of the season, the Marlins may have gotten a much needed momentum booster to power through the second-half of the year.
