There was redemption for the Virginia Wesleyan’s men’s basketball team tonight. They defeated the Eagles of Mary Washington 81 -60. The Eagles knocked out the Marlins last year during the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament.
The Marlins came to play, and the entire roster showcased their talent to take down the Eagles. Sophomore Khory Moore led the team with 16 points by keeping a strong presence on the court.
Senior Greg Montgomery continues to be a consistent player for the Marlins. He finished the game with 15 points, third highest on the team, and he had a 50% shooting average. Montgomery is best known for driving to the basket, and he showcased those skills again against the Eagles.
The sophomores stood out this game. Kaelin Poe had two alley-oops, both fed from fellow sophomore Tim Jones. Jones finished the game with 8 points, and Poe finished with 6 points.
The Marlins improve their record to 8 – 1. The team will be taking a short break for the holidays, and their season will resume on Dec. 31. They will be away at North Carolina Wesleyan at 2 p.m.
