Virginia Wesleyan’s women’s basketball team continues to show their conference dominance. They improve to 4-2 in the ODAC with a 73-71 overtime win against the Roanoke College Maroons.
The first half showed that the Marlins are looking to bounce back from their last road loss against Randolph-Macon. Marlin senior Brittany Glasco made her presence known on the scoreboard. She was three for three on three point field goals, and she tallied 13 points by herself.
The Marlins led 35-28 at the halfway point of the conference match-up because of their strong defense. The team grabbed 16 rebounds, and 11 of those were defensive rebounds.
The Maroons started to close the gap and get points on the board in the second half, but they never stole the lead away from the Marlins. Glasco continued to dominate on the scoreboard with 21 points.
Head coach, Stephany Dunmyer, continued to show her team’s depth by using most of her roster. She used 10 out her 16 women roster, and they showed their skill from the bottom up.
Two halves weren’t enough to decide a winner. The Maroons grabbed a quick two points at the buzzer to tie it up in regulation. The Marlins pushed hard, but Roanoke managed to go almost point for point with them.
The Marlins explosive offense and determined defense won the game for them. The Marlins blocked out the Maroons in the last seconds of overtime to grab the win 73-71.
The women’s basketball team is now 10-5, and Dunmyer’s team remains undefeated in the Fish Tank.
The Marlins host Lynchburg College Jan 21 for their next game. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
