Women’s Cross Country takes fourth

Women’s Cross Country took fourth place at the CNU invitational tournament. The team finished with an average 6k time of 27:57.50. Leading the pack for the Marlins was freshman Haley Witt, who clocked in at  26:34.88. Haley’s time was good enough to earn the 12th in a field that included both Division II and Division III teams. Here’s what Haley had to say about her finish “It was a rough race but overall I believe that myself and the team did really well considering we all had PR’s the weekend before at Salisbury and a really rough week of training leading up to the CNU event.”

The next Marlin to cross the finish line was freshman Marranda Hansford. Marranda finished with a time of 27:41.34 and placed 22nd. Freshman Emily Petsko and sophomore Destiny Kinka were the next Marlins to place on the 26th and 27th respectively. Petsko finished with a time of 28:07.14 while Kinka finished with a time of 28:34.50. Junior Kayleen Meinen would soon finish as well as she placed 29th with a time of 28:39.61.

Junior Gina Donatelli missed the invitation with injury, but could be cleared for action before the ODAC championships.

“I find out if I get cleared Friday, Oct. 25, but I have to go home for a bone density test because of the stress fracture pattern, but I’ll definitely be back for outdoor season my senior year,” Donatelli said.

In regards to the fourth place finish, Donatelli said, “I didn’t get to run because of injury but yes, the team is pleased with the finish but they know there is always room for improvement.”

Women’s Cross Country returns to action Nov. 2, as the team will head to Salem, Virginia to compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships.
