The Virginia Wesleyan Marlins men’s basketball team took on Hampton Roads rival Christopher Newport University Captains.
The Marlins won in overtime 84 – 83, but the win did not come easy. The team fought hard, and the lead changed between the Marlins and Captains 13 different times. This game put fans on the edge of their seats as both teams moved quickly.
Senior Brevon Lyons was responsible for sending this Marlins team to overtime with a strong 3 pointer. Lyons also showed his skill by scoring the layup that would win the game for the Marlins.
The seniors showed they were out for blood this game. Greg Montgomery led the team with 27 points, and Cameron Owens was right behind him with 22 points.
The Marlins will compete again at home against the University of Mary Washington on Dec. 17. This game will be the first time the Marlins will play the Eagles since they knocked them out of the NCAA tournament.
The game is free to the public for Community Appreciation Night.
