The Virginia Wesleyan women’s basketball team took on the Methodist University Monarchs. The Marlins started behind, but claimed the lead halfway through the first, and they stayed on top through the rest of the game.
Junior Kelly Jones led the Marlins to a 73 – 60 win with an impressive 20 points during the game and made three out of six of her three pointer attempts.
Senior Symonne Newsome followed Jones with 14 points and two three pointers, and Senior Nancy Kelly was third in scoring with 12 points.
The Marlins were impressive at the free throw line, only missing four out of 14 attempts.
The women’s basketball team will compete again in the Virgin Islands on Dec. 18 and 19 against Nichols and Emerson before they take Christmas break.
